If you’re looking for something that’s equal parts festive, easy, and actually good for you, this patriotic flag snack tray is it. It’s one of those ideas that looks like you put in way more effort than you did, and that is exactly my kind of party trick.

I made this for a little Americana get-together and it was a hit from the moment I set it on the table, especially with the kids. There’s just something about food arranged to look like the flag that makes everyone smile. It’s the kind of thing that disappears fast, which is honestly the best compliment a snack can get.

The best part? You can pull this together in about ten minutes with things you probably already have on hand. Berries, cheese bites, yogurt-covered raisins — simple, real food that happens to look absolutely adorable. Whether you’re hosting a backyard BBQ, heading to a cookout, or just want something fun on the table for the kids, this one delivers every single time.

What You’ll Need
Starting with a cake plate, large flat plate, or small white serving tray, you’ll build your flag with stripes of red and white, plus a blue corner filled with stars.
For the red stripes, use any combination of:
- Fresh strawberries (sliced or whole, depending on your tray size)
- Raspberries
- Dried cranberries
- Red fruit snacks (any brand you love!)

For the white stripes, use any combination of:
- Yogurt-covered raisins
- White cheddar cheese cubes (we made our stars for extra fun)
- Mozzarella balls (ciliegine size is perfect!)
- White cheddar popcorn
- Mini marshmallows for a sweeter tray

For the blue star section:
- Blueberries are the MVP here – pile them in the upper left corner of your tray to create the star field. We kept ours extra simple and just put them in a white bowl.
- Blue M&M’s – a great alternative if you are wanting to lean a little more indulgent
- Blue Corn Chips – a good option if you are going the savory route

For the star shapes (the fun extra touch!):
- Grab these small star-shaped cookie cutters and punch stars right out of sliced cheddar, pepper jack, or even watermelon for a wow-worthy moment. It takes about two minutes and looks so impressive on the tray!

How to Assemble
Starting from the top of your tray, lay out alternating horizontal stripes of red and white across the right two-thirds of the plate. Fill the upper left corner with blueberries for the blue field. Tuck your star-shaped cheese or fruit cutouts into the blueberry section, or simply nestle them along the top of the tray. That’s it, you’ve got yourself a flag! Super simple, but so eye-catching!

Tips & Variations
- Swap yogurt-covered raisins for mozzarella balls, tomatoes for the strawberries and raspberries, and blue corn chips for the blueberries to have a more savory option
- Add a small bowl of fruit dip or hummus alongside the tray for extra snacking
- For a sweeter version, use mini marshmallows for the white stripes and skip the cheese entirely
- Make it ahead: Assemble up to 2 hours before serving and cover loosely with plastic wrap. Add any crackers or popcorn right before serving so they don’t get soft.
- Scaling up: This works great as an appetizer for 8–12 people. For a bigger crowd, use a large cutting board or sheet pan and double everything!

This is one of those recipes I come back to every single year because it never gets old, and it always gets compliments. The kids go absolutely crazy for it, and honestly so do the adults. I love that you can customize it to your guests, if you want to make a fully savory version you totally can, if you want to lean more sweet that’s also an option, I tend to go down the middle and have both savory and sweet items available. Simple, festive, and a little bit fun, that’s my kind of 4th of July food.
