And sinking we have been. Into a sudsy tub to let the cold chill of a long day melt away, lifting a well pruned foot out only to turn the faucet and warm the water, again. Into piles of pillows and blankets laid out in front of the hearth, fire a cracklin’ behind us as we play just one more game about a trillion times. Sinking into October’s new melody of waking a little earlier than usual to keep the house clean and cozy, of letting new candles blaze their crisp scents through the day, of pumpkin bread and hot cider, of swaddling our beds with an extra layer of warmth, of Holiday planning and costume making, of digging up the decorations from the attic and the basement, and after a good dusting, adding a that golden touch of fall to the indoors.
I love October’s melody and I’m sinking right in.

I was wondering about getting cozy and warm in front of a fire in OCTOBER, until I read that you live in Michigan. That seems about right. It does not get cool here till late November/early December; if we want to use a fireplace, we have to go up north to the mountainous resorts in winter…
