I’m currently out of town for work (Hello, Chicago!) and tonight, when the hours of standing gifted us a slight reprieve and a little time to rest our feet, my girlfriend and I had them sprawled across a low table while we spread the rest of our bodies out on uncomfortable pleather couches, ate junk food after eating healthy all day and between bites talked about life. About love. About goals and what we’ve always wanted to do, and how much of that we’re really doing. About the way we like to live life and what we would change if we could.
It was one of those deep conversations with a girlfriend where one sentence spurs on a whole new slew of thoughts and emotions, where stories and passions collide, that leaves an inner monologue of introspection. And, it’s fun. I love life, and I love talking about it. I love knowing that I’m living what I want to be, but that I still have goals, and ironically, tendencies to procrastinate and slack on what’s supposedly important to me.
And all of it reminded me of an amazing quote by George Elliot that I’ve posted before, so here it is…

“It is never too late to be what you might have been.”
~George Eliot
Tonight brought a rousing session of Good Night, Mommy. Good Night, Daddy. Good Night, Babies. Good Night, Moon.
But as the darkness dissipates and the sun’s rays peak out over the horizon, I invariably get excited for what that brings. It doesn’t matter if I miss it on the first, second, third or one-hundred-and-third shot, the morning sun delivers 24 hours worth of Re-Do at my front door.
With each day there’s always promise to become the mother I admire, the friend I always want to have, the daughter I’m cultivating and the wife I hope to emerge as. For me, for you? It’s never too late.
What is it that you might have been? There’s still time.

What a great quote! I know it’s bad to regret, but I always think about how I could’ve done some things differently had I known better at the time. Thank you for posting this. Now I think back on it when I need some encouragement.

The clarity and fluidity of your writing always amazes me. This is a wonderful post and a lovely message and reminder to receive as I’m having my coffee while my children play around me. Even though I don’t always participate in the Sunday Citar, it’s always a treat to read your posts. Have a lovely day.
