For Spring we usually think nudes and pastels, dewy skin and bare-faced makeup, but if the makeup on the runways during the recent New York Fashion Week was any indication of upcoming trends (and it usually is!), besides the bit of neutral makeup palettes, there was an abundance of smokey eyes! To mix it up, I’ve been playing with color and an easy plum colored smokey eye is the perfect addition to a Spring makeup repertoire! I kept it pretty laid back and light so that it would fit in my busy mommy schedule for everyday wear this season.

So for those days you want a little more than a cup of coffee, some mascara and a swipe of lipstick, let’s get to this easy tutorial for an everyday dramatic eye look.
Thank you, Physicians Formula and Condé Nast for sponsoring this post as I share a favorite eye makeup look for Spring!
- Start with a clean eye area.
- Apply primer, base or foundation on your lids to prep them to hold your eyeshadow for the day! When you take the time to create a great eye look, you want it to last all day long.
- Apply a medium color onto all of your crease and blend outward. I used Tease from Urban Decay Naked 2 palette.
- Brush a silvery gray along the eye lid and blend just a bit into the crease. I used Pistol from Urban Decay Naked 2 palette.
- Under the eyebrow and in the inner corner of your eyes, blend in a soft white color. Shown here is Foxy from Urban Decay Naked 2 palette.
- For the outer crease apply your plum color. My current favorite is Shadowy Lady from Mac.
- Use the same plum to line the outside half of your lower lash line and blend.
- Line upper lid with the same plum color. Here you can line as thinly or as thick as you’d like. I kept it to a bit of a smaller line for an easy daytime look.
- Curl lashes.
- Apply a great mascara like this Eye Booster Instant Lash Extension Kit from Physicians Formula… the first DIY Lash Extension Kit with all natural extensions and Lash Boosting Technology to give the effect of falsies without all the effort and irritation. It’s easy to use with three steps that are actually very simple. Just note it’s important to do one eye fully then move on to the other. (Don’t go back and forth between coats). Step 1 – Sweep Lash Boosting Mascara to prep for fibers and layer on lash boosting ingredients. Step 2 – Shake the extensions wand first (this gets rid of the loose flakes), then brush-on extensions to the upper lashes while the mascara is still wet to instantly build lashes. Step 3 – Reapply Lash Boosting Mascara to seal and set extensions. Repeat Steps 2 & 3. The exclusive mascara formula contains the same lash-boosting peptide that’s found in the original Eye Booster™ to enhance natural lash growth while conditioning and nourishing lashes… meaning you could see the long term effects of thicker, fuller and longer lashes after just three weeks (and for just $14.95)! I’m hooked.
So even though this is a smokey eye, it’s soft enough for everyday wear… at least I think so! And plum is a great way to mix up a smokey eye and bring in some color for Spring. What do you think? I hope you loved this quick little tutorial and would love to hear if you try it! (Tweet me @TabithaBlue or tag me on Insta @TabithaBlue!)

Love it! I’ve been looking for a way to use a plum on my eyes, as just a sort of purple color doesn’t look all too great on my face, but plum…that’s a color I can get behind! Will be trying this out for sure!
