I woke up early to cries from his room across the hall and slowly kicked one leg in front of the other as I unsteadily dodged a wall or two on my way out of the door. I knew I had the cure to our before sunrise restlessness… sidling his body next to mine under the warmth of our white down.
A couple of hours later I woke to a sun drenched room and a chubby, tired little body stretched out across the bed with his feet twisted up into my arms. I squinted my eyes open and memorized the soft folds of skin that his walking legs were causing to slowly disappear. I caressed the outline of his feet and smiled as his toes still curve in towards my touch. I rubbed his back to feel the gentle rhythm of his breaths in-out, in-out.
Fifteen months, and though it really only is a small bleep on the radar of life, I can’t imagine any journey without him on it. He’s so wholly filled our hearts.
So as sixteen months quickly approaches, I relish celebrating his almost year-and-a-half grinning mouthful of teeth, his favorite activity of throwing EVERYTHING with his fierce right arm and his vocabulary that’s growing at the speed of his now sprinting little legs.

Happy Monday!
