There’s something special about creating a space that feels like a retreat—right in your own backyard.
Our latest project? A DIY Patio Umbrella Table with Planter Base that’s not only practical and budget-friendly but adds so much charm and function to our backyard. Bonus: our kids LOVE it too!
For us, transforming our outdoor area has been a long-time goal since the day we bought our home. One project at a time, we’ve been building a space that feels peaceful, beautiful, and fun for the whole family.

Here’s how we did it!

Materials We Used for this DIY Patio Umbrella Table:
- 5-gallon bucket
- PVC pipe (the right diameter to fit your umbrella pole)
- 1 bag of Quickcrete
- Water
- Pretty planter or decorative pot
- Sand (for topping and play!)
- Patio umbrella
How We Made Our Umbrella Table Stand:
- Place the PVC pipe upright in the center of the 5-gallon bucket. (You can tape it in place or use something to prop it up temporarily.)
- Mix the Quickcrete with water right in the bucket, following package instructions.
- Pour the concrete mixture into the bucket, around the pipe.
- Let it set overnight.
- Once it’s fully cured, place the bucket into a decorative planter.
- Top with sand or stones—we used sand, and our kids actually play in it, so it doubles as a mini sandbox!
- Finally, slide your patio umbrella into the PVC pipe opening.
And just like that—you’ve got yourself a functional, cute, and DIY patio umbrella table that brings both shade and style to your space!

Why We Love This Umbrella Table:
This little project turned out to be such a gem. It gives our patio a cozy, shaded spot perfect for lounging or playtime. The planter and sand top make it feel beautiful and intentional, unlike a bucket of concrete sitting around. And more than anything, it adds to that dreamy backyard oasis we’ve been slowly creating—on a real-life budget.
We’re big believers that you don’t need a massive renovation or big budget to make your home feel like your favorite place to be. It’s the little, doable projects that make the biggest difference.
