… of our newly-created annual Anniversary week.
My Christopher appeared at the top of the stairs, looking as wonderful as ever, holding a laundry basket. He smoothly glided his way across the living room floor as he gazed at me and flashed that coy, crooked smile. “Do you have anything you’d like me to wash? I’m starting laundry.”
How can a man look so incredible doing housework, I thought to myself. I tried to figure out if there really was anything upstairs that needed to be washed, and figured I just needed to go up and have a look. I quietly hastened up each step and lurched my way down the hallway, past our sleeping babe’s room, and opened our bedroom door. Something was different, something was out of place. It took my mind a second to realize that shoes were on the bed. Within moments I noticed the entire scene. My favorite black dress, stylish and yet always so comfortable, was laid out ever so carefully. The bottle of Merlot (de-alcoholized for me, thankyouverymuch), placed strategically behind a handwritten note, inviting me out to dinner. I read the entire note, front and back. Twice. The closing line, “I’ll pick you up at 5:30.” Wait, that’s soon. Just over an hour. I was excited, and I was confused. How did he plan this? Who was going to watch Baby Blue? With all of his planning I knew he had it figured out. I had to find him, I had to say, “yes.”
There he was, standing over a pile of dirty clothes and towels, sorting and casually tossing what matched into the washing machine. I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face, and when he looked up, my heart melted. He came closer, softly gripping my waist with his hands and pulled me close. As his arms wrapped their way around my waist, his lips brushed my ear and he said, “I’ll see you soon.”

I think it takes a real man to recognize that to make the kiddos truly happy, you have to make certain that the marriage is full of love and fire! It is so refreshing to read how you two work at your relationship without having it seem like work at all. Bravo!
