Sometimes, mornings just call for something that warms you from the inside out. Those mornings where the snow has gently dusted and covered any other color that would usually show outside. It’s those mornings that I want to add some color to the indoors, and bring out the pleasantly spicy flavor of the season.
French toast has always been one of my morning ‘comfort’ foods (as well as pancakes and waffles). They are always so filling, so warming, so comfy. The perfect blend of this season is infusing eggnog to the already wonderful morning treat.
Once cooked, these didn’t last long in our house. Quickly gobbled up by hungry mouths and grumbly tummies. The satisfaction was evident. The scent still wafting through the house even after all other evidence was gone.
We enjoyed our early feast with a side of cheesy scrambled eggs. Perfection on my plate.
Our recipe:
1 egg, slightly beaten
1C eggnog
1tsp cinnamon
1/2tsp sugar
1/2tsp nutmeg
1/4tsp cloves
(The only eggnog in our fridge was Sugar Cookie Eggnog, so I skipped adding the sugar to the mixture, it was delish by the way!)
Mix well and dip bread slices one at a time (make sure to saturate both sides) until evenly covered, then place in hot, greased (or buttered) skillet. Cook until golden brown on both sides and serve hot, sprinkled with powdered sugar.
Makes about 4-5 slices, you can easily double the recipe.
Enjoy!

Oh, that looks soooo yummy! I am in bed with a nasty cold and would pay good money to have that for breakfast in bed! With a hot mug of cinnamon coffee? Mmmm. Heaven!
Love your photography, btw! You’re very talented! What kind of camera are you using?

Since I’m reading this post at 8:09 am (breakfast time) I’m extremely hungry now. Too bad I can’t cook that since I’m in a hotel room right now but I think room service is calling my name and I just might be ordering french toast and eggs!

Sounds yummy. Makes me want some! My husband use to get up every Sunday and he and my daughter would make me french toast in bed. He hasn’t done that in quite a while. I think I’m gonna hint to him today that I’d like some. Have a great Saturday!

Yummy. That looks so good. I love how you blog, too, with all the different text sizes and colors. I read that you are a Graphic Design, so it must come natural. Sad thing is, I am a Graphic Designer too. I am only creative for work and then I get lazy for my own blogs, myspace, etc.
Thanks for commenting at my blog. I have been replying to your comments on my blog via email ([email protected]), but I found out today by the owner of that email that it is not yours. So, please don’t think I didn’t notice your comments. I just thought that a reply was getting to you is all. :o)

I love this idea for French Toast. I just recently bought a griddle that I can flip to make pancake or waffles… I bet it would make great French Toast too. Thanks, T!

perfection on the plate, indeed! once you’ve had cheesy scrambled eggs, cheese-less just doesn’t cut it. 🙂 and hooray for any vehicle for maple syrup, especially french toast. 🙂
