I had it all played out in my head as I rocked my littlest to sleep on the eve of the big party. The big celebration in honor of his birth, his life, of grafting himself into our lives so perfectly… almost as though it’s been far longer than a year. The words were eloquent, delicate even. And then more life happened.
As I pretended to be Martha Stewart in the kitchen, my fingers dipped in some blue jello and toothpicks, tripping over themselves as I prepared for the party tomorrow, I also secretly wished I could just order room service, leave towels on the bathroom floor for someone else to pick up after my shower and climb into a bed of crisp white sheets. And there it is… the ebb and flow of this dance called life. Not that I wanted to be in a hotel room, far from it, but it’s just that getting back into the smooth flow of my favorite place to be is like riding a bike. It’s comfortable and I’ll always get the hang of it, but it might take a couple of spins of the pedals for me to really get into that flow I know so well, that groove where the bike almost takes over as you seemingly glide over pavement, hair flowing in a smooth tango with the wind.
So, I finished in the kitchen, and made a mad dash to a room of scented candles, lit by a man who understood just how much I needed them, and warmed with a hot oatmeal bath. A room where I fully plan to leave the towels on the floor for someone to pick up tomorrow. Most likely, me.
And just like those towels left in a not-so-suble heap, I’m leavin’ a few things I’m loving right now in this space here.
Tea Time
With my girl, with our favorite breakfast tea, and with real cream and sugar, ’cause nothing’s better than keepin’ it real.

Getting Ready
Party preparations have made themselves fully at home in our home and have crept into every crevice. My favorite thing to do about it? Thumb through the photos of Brayden’s first year.
Catching
Catching his desire to learn. Catching the right moment. Catching him make the right choice. Catching him grow.

Mini-Me
I have to laugh when I walk into her room, and she has lined up her little plush family and is wiping down her books and chanting, “I love to clean.” I love days when my own heart echos the sentiment
Us Time
And then I reach in and scoop up one of those freshly wiped books, climb in her bed and snuggle her close as we read… and read… and read.
Faking It
We’ve been enjoying some faux spring around here! Scouring the aisles of pink and yellow ’till we find the perfect little peeps (something we’ve already marked off the Spring check list over two weeks ago). Polishing my own peeps and showing them off with some peep toed shoes, even if the grass is still covered in snow. And pulling out the month’s standard green wear and playing in the light of the bedroom window. Ahh, spring. Even it it isn’t.

And okay… so, tonight, I don’t think I can squeeze out my usual 10 things, and not because there aren’t 10 things I’m loving, but mostly because I’m tired, and have a husband and some crisp, clean sheets calling my name… and I’m loving that.
Happy Weekending everyone. I’ll let ya’ know how the party goes.

They grow up so fast. I know it never seems like it when you’re in the middle of all the day to day action, but it’s gone in a blink. Your house sounds like a warm, wonderful place to be. I love that your little sweetie pie loves to clean! And that bow tie … thanks for the smile!

I LOVE that new banner! We have that same bow-tie and headband! The party, I’m confident, will go quite SWIMMINGLY 🙂 So wish we could be there. Although, If I know you, and I do, you will post a blog that will grab us and pull us through the computer screen, right into the party itself. I have my bikini on stand-by. Love you.
